Price Per Carat

Price per carat is a jewelry industry term that is used frequently. The price per carat is determined by dividing the total price by the carat weight of the gemstones. For example, if we have a 10 carat gemstone which costs $1,000, then the price per carat would be $100. ($100 price per carat x $10 carats = $1,000 total price).

Generally speaking, the higher the price per carat, the better overall quality of the gemstone. When comparing stones for purchasing, be sure to used the “price per carat” as the value measure as opposed to the “total price.”
